Bajrakitiyabha, Princess Rajasarini Siribajra, has died after spending more than three years in a coma, plunging Thailand into mourning.

The 47-year-old royal passed away on Thursday evening, according to a statement from the royal household. Her death followed a long medical battle that began in December 2022 when she collapsed while exercising with her dogs.

Reports said the princess suffered a severe heart-related condition linked to a mycoplasma infection. The illness left her unconscious despite years of intensive treatment and medical support.

News of her collapse had sparked widespread concern across Thailand and beyond. Known for her public service and active lifestyle, Princess Bajrakitiyabha remained a respected figure throughout her illness. The royal household said doctors made every effort to aid her recovery, but her condition continued to decline over time.

The palace said in a statement:

“The medical team provided the closest and most intensive care possible, but her condition continued to decline progressively.”

Her death was confirmed at Chulalongkorn Hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment. For many people in Thailand, Princess Bajrakitiyabha was seen as a modern and accomplished royal.
