Jude Lemfani Abaga, known globally as M.I Abaga (Mr Incredible), is more than just a rapper; he is the architect of the modern Nigerian hip-hop landscape. From his roots in Jos to becoming a continental music executive, his career spans over two decades of lyrical excellence and business innovation.

The Early Years & Breakthrough

Born in Jos, Plateau State, M.I’s musical journey began in secondary school before he moved to the United States to study Business and Economics at Calvin College, Michigan. It was here that he honed his craft, influenced by the lyrical depth of DMX and Lauryn Hill.

He burst onto the Nigerian scene in 2006 with the street anthem “Crowd Mentality”, followed by his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Talk About It’ (2008). This project redefined Nigerian rap, blending complex wordplay with commercial appeal.

The Executive Era: Chocolate City & Beyond

M.I didn’t just make music; he built a dynasty. As the CEO of Chocolate City (2015–2019), he spearheaded a landmark partnership with Warner Music Group and was instrumental in launching the careers of superstars like Wizkid, Ice Prince, and Jesse Jagz.

In 2020, he announced his exit from Chocolate City to launch his own label, Incredible Music, and founded TASCK, a creative agency that bridges the gap between entertainment and social impact.

The Discography: A Legacy of “Incredible” Music

M.I’s catalog is a masterclass in evolution:

Talk About It (2008): The blueprint for modern Naija rap.

MI 2: The Movie (2010): Produced hits like “Action Film” and “One Naira.”

The Chairman (2014): A highly structured conceptual album.

A Study on Self Worth: Yxng Dxnzl (2018): A deep dive into mental health and vulnerability.

The Guy (2022): A reaffirmation of his status as the industry’s elder statesman.

Mixtapes: The Illegal Music series remains one of the most respected mixtape runs in African history.

Brand Ambassador: He has held multi-million naira deals with Globacom, Samsung, and Martell.

Tech & Blockchain: In recent years, he has pivoted into the digital economy, serving as a Creative Director for blockchain startups like Vault Hill and launching his own NFT collections.

Accolades & Achievements

MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA): Best New Act (2009) and Best Hip Hop (2009).

2026 Status: The Legend Continues

As of 2026, M.I remains a central figure in the industry. While the “pop frenzy” belongs to the younger generation, M.I maintains a unique position as a mentor and mogul. His recent work, including the “Chocolate City Cypher” (2024) and singles like “Mr. Fantastic” (2025), proves his pen is as sharp as ever.

“Everything I have learned in my life, I can try to sing you in songs.” — M.I Abaga
