The first look is an emerald green gown. At first glance, the outfit makes a statement due to its length and shoulder display. It is unmistakably a red-carpet look, and the room for movement is something to gladly embrace. It portrays femininity and power. Who wouldn’t stop to stare at such an outfit if it passed them?

The outfit stands out for two things: the fabric and its oversized bow. The fabric feels smooth like satin and shines beautifully under the light, drawing attention right away; while the bow serves as the main focal point, giving the gown an innovative concept. This is the kind of cloth people see and want to take a closer look at. The way it dangles when worn shows how soft and high-quality the material is. The deep green colour itself is significant, evoking feelings of royalty, prosperity, and elegance. This makes it a powerful choice for any prestigious event.

However, even with all these good qualities, the gown lacks proper structure and layering. From the neckline to the chest region, the fabric doesn’t sit properly in the middle. It loses its balance and re-carves what the designer intended to be a V-neck to something slightly asymmetric. Also, the outfit would have transitioned nicely from the waist down if the hip had been a bit snatched. That way, it smoothly introduces the gown’s flay rather than letting it drop.

Another downside of this outfit is that the fabric at the shoulders is a bit too bold. The designer’s need for creative expression is acknowledged, but when it compromises the wearer’s comfort, such an idea may need to be revisited. Of course, the shoulders add flair, but they could make a better first impression if the bows are smaller.

Another thing that seems to be well thought out in this outfit is the fabric. It is neat and very firm, which is why the collars, the flay around the wrist, and the extra design at the front of the trousers seem to be very detailed. A lighter-weight fabric wouldn’t have made as much of a statement with this design, so Zhea Fashion chose right.

Now for the grand entrance, please give it up for the back of this outfit. I promise, you wouldn’t have seen this look coming if it walked past you. The designer thought out of the box when creating this piece, and I love it! The ziz-zag cut and the tiny rope attached to the back of this shirt to hold it together top this view’s creativity. It is almost as if she were trying to show off her fashion expertise, which I don’t mind, of course.

But there is a minor challenge here. Although the choice of fabric and colour is appreciated, the trousers look a bit tight around the hips, and this could disrupt movement. Outfits that are not breathable around the hip region, especially for trousers, tend to malfunction. And because the type of fabric used for this outfit is not the elastic type, the wearer may have a difficult time making certain movements that involve crossing over or stretching. Because of the material used here, a different fabric is recommended, the elastic kind. And even if the designer still wants to maintain this fabric, then she should consider adjusting the hip region for ease and fluidity.

Still on the trousers, the side structure would flow much better if it weren’t so slanted. The challenge with this kind of fabric is that, while it serves its purpose of detailing, it can also be a hindrance to other delicate features of the outfit. Here, the ‘slant-like’ structure of the trousers looks a bit too sharp, drawing attention away from the fit’s other endearing qualities.

Adjusting the trousers slightly from above the knee to the hem to reduce the slant and give it a more refined look is highly recommended.
Over to the shirt. So far, it looks good and properly structured. The only thing or ‘things’ that could be of added value is adding an extra rope to the back of the shirt. A closer look at the outfit shows that the fabric above the rope in that area looks a bit loose. It may become more revealing due to the breeze and other factors. Taming it with an extra rope for design and balance will bring comfort to the wearer. Also, I think the sleeves could be raised slightly to reveal the palm better. Right now, it looks a bit excessive and hinders the activities of the hand.

The final design speaks of creativity and confidence. With a daring blend of colours, the design catches the eye before anything else. I can tell from this look that the designer wanted to create something that balances bold patterns. And in many ways, this mesh together works beautifully. Both designs complement each other effectively, clearly indicating that the execution was successful. The floral top adds nothing but brings life and warmth to this piece, while the deep maroon pants with yellow stripes add a sense of cultural richness and structure.

I would examine the top for a little bit. This floral top stands out for its attention to detail. The placement of its patterns feels almost intentional, and the long sleeves add to its elegance. The designer’s choice of fabric also helps give the upper body a firm yet flexible fit that flatters without being too tight. It’s the kind of piece that can be easily worn in a formal or creative setting without being misjudged. Paired with the pants, it gives off a look that is both modern and rooted in African creativity.

Now, I would also view the trousers. The trousers, without a doubt, are the real statement here. The designer thought of fluidity and depth, then carved out this unique look. Her choice of colour is also to be studied, bold yellow lines matching the wine background. The flap around the waist gives it a whole new look. Like, is it a skirt at the back? Or a pant at the front? It’s a total brain-er. With its length, the trousers also complement the heels, keeping the entire look balanced and graceful.

I love it!

However, while the design looks refreshing, there are a few areas for improvement. The first observation is the way the flap sits on the pants. The fabric looks loose here, giving the trousers a bulky feeling. This disrupts the fabric’s natural flow. I suggest a slight adjustment in the sewing or using a slightly lighter fabric for that overlay. This could help the drape fall more smoothly, instead of looking forced.

As for the combinations of the two heavy patterns, floral and striped, taking a closer look, they appear too overwhelming. It is recommended that the designer consider using a plainer top, which, in turn, will give the outfit room for sufficient air. Also, consider pairing the floral top with trousers featuring subtler stripes. In doing this, I believe the outfit would possess a more coordinated look.

Overall, I must say that this piece reflects the designer’s creative mind. And I applaud her for her colour and fabric choices. She has put a name to designs that will not only speak balance and appearance, but also originality and cultural pride. This designer deserves credit for pushing boundaries, making bold decisions, and shining a light on fabric that goes unnoticed.
