Tinubu Hails Olu Falae’s Discipline, Resilience At Autobiography Launch

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday described elder statesman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Oba Olu Falae, as a man of discipline, resilience whose sacrifices and unwavering commitment to the progress of the nation cannot be overemphasized.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said this at the launch of autobiography “The Triumph of Grace” by Oba Olu Falae held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos.

According to him, the book launch was more than a personal memoir, calling it a reflection of the Nigerian story, one of triumphs, perseverance, and enduring hope.

The President said the occasion was not merely a book launch but a celebration of a life marked by discipline, sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment to national progress.

“Today’s event is not just about the release of a book,” Akume said, quoting the president. “It is the celebration of life, of discipline, sacrifice, resilience and an unwavering commitment to the progress of our nation.”

Tinubu praised Oba Falae’s journey through public service, highlighting his key roles in governance and economic policy and his later transition into a custodian of culture and tradition.

He described the Olu‑Abo of Ilu‑Abo as a “rare fusion of intellect, leadership, and cultural stewardship,” standing as a bridge between Nigeria’s rich heritage and its aspirations for a prosperous future.

The President’s speech traced Oba Falae’s distinguished career, which included service as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and as Minister of Finance, where he was credited with steering the country through complex fiscal challenges with prudence and clarity of vision.

Tinubu noted that Oba Falae’s tenure was marked by financial discipline, a commitment to macroeconomic stability, and efficient management of public resources, earning him wide respect as a “technician of integrity” and a patriot devoted to national development.

Oba Falae, a recipient of the national honours of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), has also served as chairman of the National Executive Committee of Afenifere since 2025, championing unity, good governance, and the advancement of Yoruba interests within the broader Nigerian Federation.

“His life story, as captured in this autobiography, is both instructive and inspirational,” Tinubu’s statement read. “It chronicles a path marked by courage in times of adversity, wisdom in moments of decision, and humility in the face of great achievements.”

The president also used the occasion to call on traditional rulers to emulate Oba Falae’s leadership, especially at a time of security challenges and social division.

He reminded the audience that traditional institutions remain one of the most enduring pillars of Nigerian society, with royal fathers serving as guardians of culture and the “closest government to the grassroots.”

Tinubu, who also urged traditional rulers to act as partners in governance, promote dialogue, discourage violence, and make their palaces centres of peace‑building and conflict resolution, said he is committed to deepening collaboration with traditional institutions to enhance security, social harmony, and grassroots development.

The host of the event, Ondo State governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, also spoke at the launch, describing “Triumph of Grace” as more than a mere title. “Triumph of Grace transcends just a book,” he said. “It is a philosophy of life. It reminds us that beyond strategy and strength, ambition and achievement, there is a higher orchestration in the affairs of men.”

Citing scripture, the governor said God rules over the nation and the lives of individuals. “Grace does not eliminate effort; it ennobles it,” he said. “It does not replace struggle; it crowns it. Chief Olu Falae’s courage in undertaking this project even at his age shows that he is not tired. The Lord will continue to renew his strength and increase his greatness.”

Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who chaired the event but was represented by former Defence Minister, Yayale Ahmed, called Chief Olu Falae one of the finest Nigerian statesmen, a man of vision, integrity, resilience, and courage.

Abubakar identified three key legacies for which he wanted the gathering to remember Chief Falae: his deep education and patriotism, stressing that, “Patriotism without education is dangerous, while education without patriotism is fatal. His role in shaping Nigeria’s Second and Third National Development Plans, underscoring the importance of national planning for sustainable growth. His courage in entering the presidential race despite intimidation was motivated by the belief that the country needed a leader with hands‑on experience in public service.’’
