A support group loyal to the president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu known as Northeast Amalgamated Movement for Tinubu/Shettima (NEAMTS) has called on the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu as managing director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The public relations officer (PRO) of the group Muhammad Khalid made the call yesterday in a press release he issued to journalists.
LEADERSHIP reports that Umar is a son of the first civilian governor of Gombe State late Abubakar Hashidu and was one-time managing director of Yola Electricity Distribution Company.
According to the group, the appointment of Umar is in line with the present administration’s desire to involve youths in governance.
“In addition to that, Umar has outstanding records of achievements in the private sector that made him immensely qualified for the position.
“Dr Umar Hashidu is a greatly endowed intellectual with an endearing sense of responsibility, uprightness and dedication to duty. Considering the mandate of the Northeast Development Commission, one could not hope for a better candidate for the job.
“His stints and positive contributions in both Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) are testimonies to his ability, commitment and dedication to his duties.
“We therefore call on our most respected members of the National Assembly to as a matter of national interest and further development of the north eastern region confirm the appointment of Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu as the MD/CEO Northeast Development Commission due to his proven skills and leadership qualities exhibited in the private sector,” the group said.
