Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested a bandit in possession of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine as well as 11 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition at Kaskra in Ropp District of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State.
According to a statement issued by the Media and Information Officer of the JTF Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Zhakom on Thursday, troops responded to a distress call on the movement of militias to attack communities in Fann District in Barkin Ladi LGA.
He explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested bandit was mobilised to launch attacks on communities under Nding Village, adding that the suspect was currently in custody undergoing interrogation to give information to aid follow-up operations.
Zhakom further disclosed that troops were conducting operations to arrest other fleeing bandits mobilised for the attack to recover their weapons as part of renewed determination to end the needless attacks on innocent civilians and communities within the area.
The statement also pledged troops’ commitment to maintaining peace and security through tireless work to achieve its mandate.
