Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Taskforce in collaboration with other security agencies have repelled Boko Haram terrorists attack on a military outpost in Ajilari community , which is very close to Maiduguri , the Borno State capital.
The attack which occurred around 12 pm midnight of Sunday threw residents of some parts of Maiduguri close to the community into panic.
Many residents of Dala, Bulamari, and Ajilari Cross reportedly fled their homes in search of safety as the situation escalated
A source near the Dala community told our correspondent that military personnel had told hundreds of people in the area to flee their homes.
“As I am talking to you, people have fled from their homes for their safety, but calm has been restored in Maiduguri after Nigerian Army and Air Force troops successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the outskirts of the city early Monday morning,” the source said
However calming residents over the attack , Borno Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO ) Nahum Kenneth Daso, said joint security operatives have been mobilised to the scene, adding that efforts are ongoing to asses the situation and restore normalcy.
The PPRO said,” Following reports of a foiled attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists around Ajilari Cross – Kofa area of Maiduguri. Joint Security operatives have been mobilized to the scene and efforts are ongoing to assess the situation and restore normalcy.”
He urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid the affected area, and cooperate with security agencies as further updates will be communicated in due course.
The attack occurred when many residents were out for night prayers in view of the last 10 days of Ramadan that faithful embark on special supplication for blessings.
Details of casualties from the attack is not yet clear as at the time of filing this report, but the PPRO promised to update the public over the incident .
