Truck Conveying FG Grains Crashes, Kills 7, Injures 16 In Niger

A truck conveying federal government grains, and 36 passengers has crashed in Niger killing seven and injuring 16 people.

LEADERSHIP findings revealed that the accident occurred at Essa Community along Agaie -Badeggi Road in the Katcha local government area of Niger State.

The findings also showed that the accident occurred at about 3 am yesterday when the truck tried to manoeuvre through a bad portion of the road under construction.

An eye witness account confirmed by the officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) stated that the “truck was conveying federal government’s assorted grains, and some passengers numbering 36, all male heading to Kano from Lagos”.

The director general Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Abdullahi Baba Arah confirmed the incident saying that search and rescue operations was ongoing.

He said “The truck accident was attributed to a bad road, that is, in the portions of the road that were yet to be reconstructed on Lambata -Bida axis.

As at the time of last report received, seven people were confirmed dead, 11 people with a high degree of injuries, while five people sustained minor injuries.”

Arah stated that some of the injured victims of the accident were taken to Badeggi and Agaie health centres, and others were taken away by fellow drivers. The director general added that most of the dead bodies were also taken away by their relatives.
