The White House, on Monday, confirmed that a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran was under consideration, but President Donald Trump has not yet approved the plan as hostilities continued
According to US officials, the ceasefire initiative, reportedly brokered through international mediators remained one of several diplomatic options being evaluated by Washington.
“This is one of many ideas, and POTUS (Trump) has not signed off on it. Operation Epic Fury continues,” a White House official told AFP.
The statement came amid growing international attention on efforts to pause the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with reports indicating that Washington has received a formal proposal for a temporary truce.
However, the White House stressed that no final decision has been made by Donald Trump, who is expected to address the situation in a press conference scheduled for 1:00 pm (1700 GMT).
Officials said the administration was still weighing its options as military operations continued under what has been described as “Operation Epic Fury,” with no indication yet of an immediate shift in policy.
The White House was yet to release further details on the contents of the proposed ceasefire deal or the conditions attached to it.
