The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki has appointed caretaker committees for the party’s chapters in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun States.

The setting up of the state committees follows the dissolution of the state chapters in those states after the state governors defected from PDP.

The former state executives were largely considered as loyalists of the erstwhile PDP governors.

Moreover, the setting up of the caretaker committees also reflects the lingering internal wrangling within the party. Last month, the PDP camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, inaugurated a 19-member State Caretaker Committee for the party in Lagos State.

The Wike-backed NWC led by Alhaji Abdulraman Mohammed as national chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, had announced the dissolution of the party’s state executives in some states, including Lagos State.

However, the national organising secretary of Turaki-led PDP, Theophilus Dakas Shan, yesterday, said the state caretaker committee appointments were done by the National Working Committee (NWC) the party on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in pursuance to Section 29(2)(b) of the party’s Constitution (2025 as amended).

According to the statement, the caretaker committee chairman for Delta State is Prof. Sylvester Monye, while Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq. is secretary of an 11 member team.

In Enugu State State, the nine-member Caretaker Committee is chaired by Barr. Steve Oruruo with Martin Ugwuamadieze as secretary.

For Imo State, Chief John Jude Okere is chairman of the nine-member Caretaker Committee with Mr. Magnus Amadi as secretary.

In Rivers State, the nine-member Caretaker Committee is led by Ogbam Ojimah as chairman, while Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor is secretary.

The seven-member Osun State Caretaker Committee is chaired by Hon. Tunde Tijani with Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary.

“The Committees are charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the Party in their respective States, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of the PDP Constitution. The tenure of these committees shall not exceed 90 days, or until such a time as a new Executive Committee is elected.
