Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre has said that Governor Uba Sani’s financial assistance to some inmates that he granted clemency on June 12, in commemoration of Democracy Day, will encourage them to be law abiding citizens.

It will be recalled that the Governor, in exercise of constitutional prerogative of mercy, had freed 97 inmates and promised to assist them financially, in order to transit back to society.

Speaking after officials of Kaduna State Government gave each inmate cash support of N100,000 on Friday, Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim commended Governor Uba Sani’s kind gesture.

The Assistant Controller who is in charge of Kaduna Medium Security Custodian Centre, said that the Governor’s gesture ‘’ will help us in achieving the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of the ex inmates.’’

‘’By paying the fine of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to go and do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into the society,’’ he added.

The head of the Custodian Centre advised the freed prisoners to use the money given to them as working capital, to enable them to either start a business or begin life afresh.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, said that they were at the Custodian Centre as part of the last leg of the clemency granted some inmates on June 12.

According to Alhaji Mohammed, he led senior Government officials to fulfil Governor Uba Sani’s promise, by extending financial support of N100,000 each to the freed inmates.

The Senior Special Assistant reiterated the Governor’s counsel to the freed prisoners to be of good behaviour, adding that they should not engage in any delinquent act or criminal activity that will warrant their imprisonment.

Speaking at the event, one of the freed inmates, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, thanked the Governor for ‘’this opportunity for us to be out of prison. We very much appreciate what he has done for us.

‘’We thank him for giving us the money because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God will continue to bless him,’’ he added.

Also speaking another former inmate, Abubakar Umar who spoke in Hausa, described their release as a very happy day in their lives, which the Governor facilitated.

He prayed that God should bless Governor Uba Sani, Kaduna State and the country at large, adding that may the Almighty grant the Governor’s desires here and in the hereafter.
