Arsenal will take on Sevilla, PSV and Lens in Group B of the Champions League group stage following Thursday evening’s draw.

The Gunners are back in the competition for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign, with their most recent campaign ending in acrimonious fashion as they were brushed aside by Bayern Munich 10-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Mikel Arteta, however, has helped return Arsenal to the big time, with their second-place finish in the Premier League last season helping them back into UEFA’s premier club competition.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were handed a daunting draw on their return to the Champions League and will have to face Bayern Munich in Group A as well as Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

AC Milan were placed in what is surely the ‘Group of Death’ and will have their work cut out for them in Group F containing Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United.

Holders Manchester City were handed a straightforward draw. They will meet Red Star Belgrade, RB Leipzig and Young Boys in Group G.

Real Madrid, who have won the competition a record 14 times, were placed in Group C alongside Serie A champions Napoli, Braga and Champions League debutants Union Berlin.

Barcelona, who exited the competition in the group stage in the last two seasons, should fancy their chances of reaching the knockout stage after being placed in Group H with Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Royal Antwerp.

The group stage kicks off on Tuesday September 19 and comes to an end on Wednesday December 13, with the final slated for Saturday, June 1 2024. The match will be played in London at Wembley Stadium.
