The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that sustainable quality education serves as catalyst and panacea for national transformation and development.
This is even as they highlighted the transformative power of education in building peaceful societies.
UNICEF chief of Field Office, Enugu, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe stated this during a one-day multi-zonal press conference with the theme, “Learning for Lasting Peace” held in Enugu.
She highlighted that the conference was aimed at underscoring the transformative power of education in preventing conflicts and promoting harmony and empowering the child for sustainable and qualitative education.
Mrs Chiluwe stressed the need for accessible and equitable quality education particularly in times of crises.
The UNICEF chief of Field Office stressed that education is not only a fundamental human right but also a catalyst for social change and a means to addressing global challenges.
She expressed UNICEF’s strong commitments to ending the learning crisis and advocating for increased domestic and international financing for education.
According to her, UNICEF is aware of the daunting global challenges of climate change, democratic erosion, persistent inequalities and discrimination and called on governments to create the enabling environment for peaceful coexistence.
