Unlicensed Doctor Arrested After Woman Dies From Anti-Aging Injection In US

A 27-year-old woman, Elizabeth Baron, has died after receiving an anti-ageing injection at a holistic wellness clinic in the Bronx, New York, leading to the arrest of an unlicensed practitioner.

Police officers were called to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital on Sunday, July 19, 2026, after the victim was brought in unconscious and declared dead by medical personnel.

According to law enforcement authorities, the victim had visited the Bereshit Lifestyle Centre in Riverdale earlier in the day for a treatment session.

She was injected with a substance described as an “anti-ageing therapy solution” and went into severe medical distress shortly after, prompting staff at the facility to call for an ambulance.

Following the incident, police arrested 60-year-old Luis Rojas Cabrera, charging him with reckless endangerment and the unauthorised practice of a profession.

Investigators confirmed that while Cabrera holds a medical licence in his native Dominican Republic, he is not licensed to practice medicine or administer medical treatments in the United States.

“He was a surgeon in the Dominican Republic. He was trying to get his physician assistant licence in the US,” his sister, Heidi Rojas Cabrera, stated while expressing shock over the arrest.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father confirmed her identity to reporters, stating that the tragic loss is currently under official police investigation. Neighbours described Baron, who worked in Manhattan, as a vibrant young woman who regularly used the gym in her residential complex.

The New York City Medical Examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to establish the official cause of death.

Authorities noted that the criminal charges against the suspect could be upgraded once the autopsy results and toxicology reports are finalised.
