The residents echoed their views during a phone in audience participatory programme anchored on the Yobe Radio (YBC) on the construction of the flyover project awarded by the government as part of modernization of urban areas especially Damaturu the state capital.

A cross section of callers from Damaturu and other areas such as Abdullahi Mai Gidan Wanka, Mallam Mustapha and Mamman Sani said the commencement of the project by the government has clearly demonstrated its willingness towards fulfilling campaign promises on the provision of modern infrastructure for better development.

Abdullahi Mai Gidan Wanka said Damaturu being the state capital deserved better infrastructure such as flyover and the underpass bridge taking into consideration the increasing number of people, vehicles among other congestion that need mitigation for accident free society.

“Apart from easing movement without waiting at the traffic signals, reducing travel time and improving overall efficiency, the project is long overdue taking into consideration the series of similar construction in several cities and towns in the country.

“We need modernization of this nature for our state to compete with other parts of the country and especially neighbouring states such as Adamawa, Borno among others,” he said.

Also contributing, Mallam Mustapha expressed happiness that the flyover and the underpass bridge will stimulate growth in surrounding areas by improving access, making them attractive for business and residential development.

Another caller, Mamman Sani said, “We are thrilled that the project came with an expansion of the drainages in Damaturu the state capital. These are measures that will help in addressing some of the annual flood disasters bedeviling the town.

“I must equally commend the government for effectively compensating the owners of houses affected in our areas”

It could be recalled that Governor Mai Mala Buni while presenting the 2025 budget to the state House of Assembly said, “The widespread use of road projects is intended to give a facelift and accessibility to our communities.

“Government is committed to the completion of the seventeen ongoing road projects, and to embark on eleven new ones.

“The completion of the township roads and drainages in five Local Government Areas is very dear to the government. I am also pleased to inform you that work would soon commence for the construction of the Damaturu flyover. We would also commence work on the Damaturu Green Economic City.”
