Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has called for the adoption of evidence-based policies as a central strategy in preventing child sexual exploitation and abuse across the country.

In her message to mark the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, commemorated on November 18, Senator Tinubu said Nigeria must move from “words and good intentions” to concrete actions driven by accurate data and research.

With the 2025 theme, “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making,” the First Lady stressed that safeguarding children requires deliberate planning built on facts, not assumptions.

She noted that creating a protective environment for Nigerian children demands collaboration among government agencies, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, parents, and young people.

“As a nation, we must ensure that every child grows up free from fear and harm,” she said, urging all stakeholders to make child protection a shared priority.
