As the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
commence, delays in generating Profile Codes for the registration have caused disruptions for some candidates across the country.
Some prospective candidates are encountering difficulties in generating their Profile Codes, a vital requirement for the registration process.
The Profile Code is a unique identifier required for candidates to complete their UTME registration on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal.
It serves as the key to accessing the registration system and is a necessary step for securing a seat in the examination. Without a valid Profile Code, candidates cannot proceed with the registration process, leading to delays that could ultimately affect their chances of sitting for the examination.
Many candidates have reported issues in obtaining their Profile Codes despite following the correct procedures. These problems have sparked growing concerns among prospective candidates, many of whom are anxious about the implications of these delays.
The issues vary, but common complaints include difficulties in receiving the code after sending the required text message, confusion about the proper format for the request, and system delays that have left candidates unable to access the code.
In some cases, candidates have made multiple attempts to generate their Profile Code, only to be met with error messages or other technical problems.
This has caused frustration for many, as they are left unsure about the next steps or how to resolve the issue in time for the registration deadline.
LEADERSHIP visited one of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) registration centers located at the Government Secondary School (GSS) Lugbe, where several candidates shared their experiences with the ongoing registration process.
Among them was Jennifer, who, despite seeing other candidates proceed smoothly with their registration, faced trouble generating her Profile Code.
“I have a problem generating my profile code. It keeps showing ‘expired session,’ and I really need help as I have never registered for JAMB before,” she said.
Another candidate, James Kayode, who arrived early at the registration center by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, also encountered difficulties. He was unable to register due to problems with generating his Profile Code.
“I lost the SIM card that I used for NIN registration in 2024, and now that I want to generate my profile code, I’m having issues. I sent my NIN to 55019 with my other line, but I have not received the code yet,” he said.
It is gathered that, across the country, some prospective candidates are facing similar issues, as the registration progresses, which have created a sense of uncertainty and frustration.
However, for candidates who are encountering problems receiving their Profile Code, the board had provided several recommendations to help resolve the situation.
These include ensuring that they have at least ₦50 airtime on their phones before sending the SMS requesting their Profile Code. The system requires a small fee to process the request, and candidates should make sure they meet this requirement to avoid further delays.
Additionally, candidates should verify that the details they provided during their National Identification Number (NIN) registration match those they are using for the UTME registration.
This step is essential, as discrepancies between the names or other personal information can prevent the system from generating the Profile Code.
Candidates should also double-check that they are using a registered SIM card that matches the NIN details. If the original SIM card is unavailable, they can attempt to use an alternative one registered under their NIN.
In cases where the system is experiencing delays, candidates are advised to wait and try again after some time. The registration system may experience temporary outages or slowdowns due to high traffic.
However, if the issue persists, candidates are encouraged to visit the nearest JAMB-accredited CBT center for assistance. These centers are equipped to help candidates resolve technical problems and ensure that they can complete their registration on time.
JAMB officially opened the 2025 UTME registration process on Monday, February 3, 2025. The registration will remain open until March 5, 2025, giving candidates approximately one month to complete the process.
This timeline allows ample opportunity for candidates to resolve any issues they may face with their Profile Codes and complete the registration before the deadline.
