Max Verstappen will start the Singapore Grand Prix from pole after beating Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in qualifying.
The Red Bull driver’s opening lap in the final qualifying session was enough for top spot, giving him his second pole in a week. Leclerc came closest, finishing 0.054 seconds behind after his final attempt.
Hamilton had been Verstappen’s nearest challenger after the first runs but could not improve on his second.
Most of the front-running drivers also failed to find extra pace on their second runs. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli qualified fourth, ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, while Antonelli’s teammate George Russell was sixth fastest and will drop to the back of the grid because of a penalty for using too many engine parts.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was the only driver from the top four teams apart from Leclerc to improve on his second run, but he could only qualify seventh.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Racing Bulls pair Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10.
