Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has ended speculation about his Formula 1 future by signing a new contract with Red Bull that keeps him at the team until the end of 2030.

The Dutchman, 28, had been widely linked with moves to Mercedes or McLaren amid clauses in his previous deal—which ran to 2028—that would have allowed him to leave after the current season. The new agreement removes those escape routes.

“I have always said it: the team is like a second family for me,” Verstappen said. “To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special.”

The announcement comes despite Red Bull’s struggles under new regulations introduced this season, with Verstappen’s best results being second places in Austria and Hungary. He narrowly lost the 2025 title to McLaren’s Lando Norris after a late-season comeback from a 100-point deficit.

Verstappen also praised team principal Laurent Mekies, who replaced the sacked Christian Horner last July, and acknowledged the departure of his trusted race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, who is set to join McLaren by 2028.

“Everyone in Milton Keynes believes in what we are building,” Verstappen added. “I am looking forward to fighting for more victories and championships.”

The extension was timed to coincide with this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort—Verstappen’s final home race before the event drops off the calendar.
