Victory Is Inevitable Despite Challenges – Fubara

After the Supreme Court’s judgements stopped the statutory federal allocation to the state and annulled the local government election in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara assured the people of the state that victory is inevitable despite the political challenges in the state.

This is as the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly has written to the governor, directing him to present the 2025 appropriation bill before the House within 48 hours.

Also, yesterday, the sacked chairmen of the 23 local areas in the state were handed over to the Heads of Local Administration (HLGA) in obedience to the state governor’s directive.

Fubara, who spoke yesterday during the commissioning of Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt, assured the immediate past council chairmen in attendance that there was no reason for concern.

The governor said: “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. Despite everything, victory is sure.”

Stating that the struggle is not just about winning but about standing for truth and fighting gallantly, he declared that the era of deception in Rivers State was over, emphasising that the state is now determined to take control of its destiny.

Fubara, who reaffirmed his commitment to peace, stated that when the time comes, the necessary decisions would be made in the state’s best interest, saying: “I am not afraid of anything. The worst that can happen is for me to leave office.”

Addressing the youth, the governor assured them they would receive the necessary direction at the right time.

While reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling, which nullified the local government elections and ordered that the Martin Amaewhule-led group resume sitting, he maintained that the future holds more incredible promise than the past.

He pledged to complete his tenure with honour and integrity, ensuring his decisions remain defensible.

Meanwhile, the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly has written a letter to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 appropriation bill to the House within 48 hours.

The House, in a letter dated March 3, 2025, and signed by Amaewhule, titled ‘ Resolution of the Rivers State House Assembly under the Judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, delivered on Friday, February 28, 2025.’

It reads in part: “That under the order of the Supreme Court in Suit No: SC/CV/1174/2024, for the stoppage of statutory federal allocations to Rivers State government and the halting of spending from consolidated revenue fund of Rivers State pending the passage of appropriation bill, you are requested to present the 2025 appropriation bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

“That the House expects you to present the 2025 appropriation bill within 48 hours.”
