Barely 24 hours after he was declared wanted by the Nigeria police, popular Nigerian Singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable”, on Wednesday surrendered himself to the police for the continuation of the investigation into the role he played in the attack against three state government officials allegedly assaulted while on official duties at the Ado/Odo – Ota Local Government Area of the state penultimate Wednesday.
Portable arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Ogun Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, at precisely 1 23 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, A Chief Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a statement she issued Wednesday and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Ogun PPRO clearly emphasised in the statement that Portable’s presence at the SCID command headquarters in Eleweran was connected with the ongoing investigation into the matter for which he had previously refused to honour the Police’s invitation.
LEADERSHIP recalled that Portable allegedly led a group of 10 armed gang members to attack three officials of the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPLs Onabanjo Abidemi, Raymond Lateef, and Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi, at their Ota Zonal Office on Wednesday, February 5, 2024.
The officials, who were said to be conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, had allegedly requested the approved building plan of a property belonging to the singer, whose biological father said was unavailable until Portable arrived.
Moments later, however, Portable, armed with a firearm and other dangerous weapons, allegedly led a gang of nine thugs in a violent attack on their Zonal Office, which consequently resulted in the enforcement officers sustaining various bodily injuries and later reported the matter at the Ota Police Area Command headquarters.
The development compelled the police to request for Portable’s presence at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, which he deliberately ignored.
However, the Ogun Command’s PPRO assured that due process would be followed in handling Portable’s matter “and updates will be provided as necessary.”
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. The Command remains committed to upholding justice and maintaining public order”.
