The Benue State Police Command has said it dismantled two illegal firearm manufacturing factories in Adikpo, Kwande Local government area of the state.
Briefing journalists in Makurdi, on Friday, the Commissioner of Police Benue State Command, Cletus Nwadiobu, who spoke on the recent policing activities said one suspect was arrested at a location where two locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, together with firearm manufacturing tools and accessories was recovered.
Nwadiobu added that at the second location, another suspect was arrested and five locally fabricated English pistols were recovered.
“The suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation” he said.
In another development, the Command said it dismantled a notorious armed gang responsible for a series of violent crimes inBuruku Local Government Area and its environs.
According to Nwadiobu, “Acting on credible intelligence received on 13th July, 2026, operatives of Operation Zenda Crack Squad arrested one Ephraim Tertseagh Yough, ‘M’ age 35yrs a suspected gang member, who was sighted carrying out surveillance in preparation for another attack.
“During investigation, the suspect volunteered useful information and ledoperatives to the gang’s hideout in Kusuv, Buruku Local Government Area, where a follow-up operation conducted in the early hours of 16th July, 2026, resulted in the arrest of five additional suspects.
“The operation also led to the recovery of one K2 rifle and one cutlass believed to have been used in the gang’s criminal activities.Preliminary investigation indicates that the gang is linked to several cases of armed robbery, violent attacks, and the killing of innocent members of the public, including the murder of a trader in Buruku Local Government Area in December 2025. Investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of their criminal activities and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate,” the Command stated.
The commissioner, however, urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly provide credible information that can help prevent crime and protect lives.
