The general secretary-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Mobolaji Ojibara, said the new executives would leverage digital innovations to make the association more responsive and accessible.

He said this becomes necessary to enable the NBA to better serve its members and members of the public.

Ojibara, who spoke with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, Kwara State, said: “ We aim to make the NBA more responsive and accessible through digital innovations. By embracing technology, we are positioning the NBA to serve its members and the public better.”

He underscored the importance of educating lawyers on the new digital tools and ensuring a smooth transition to a more modernised and efficient NBA.

“We are inspired by the practices of global associations like the International Bar Association (IBA), where operations are seamlessly managed online, regardless of physical location. Our vision is to bring the same efficiency and accessibility to the NBA,” Ojibara said.

He added that the incoming administration of Afam Osigwe (SAN) will restore public trust in the NBA.

While acknowledging the growing concerns about the declining public confidence in civil society organisations, including the NBA, Ojibara emphasised that “addressing this issue would be a priority for the incoming administration.”

“Public confidence in organisations like the NBA has regrettably diminished in recent years. However, under the leadership of our incoming president, Mazi Adam Osigwe, we are determined to reverse this trend. He said that our administration is focused on enhancing our members’ welfare and professional development while simultaneously rebuilding the public’s trust in the NBA as a credible civil society institution,” he said.

He assured that the new administration would actively engage with the public to address unethical practices among lawyers, urging members of the public to report any misconduct to the appropriate NBA authorities.
