David de Gea has returned to Manchester United amid speculation surrounding his future at the Premier League side.

The Spaniard ended his 12-year stay at Old Trafford at the end of June following the expiration of his contract with the club and failed to agree terms on a new deal.

The 32-year-old Goalkeeper was close to signing a new contract towards the end of last season on reduced terms only for United to withdraw their offer – later returning with a deal on an even lower salary which he refused to sign.

He has been a free agent ever since with his replacement Andre Onana enduring a woeful start to his career at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international was at fault in United’s last two games, making errors in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and conceding a soft opener against Brentford on Saturday before Scott McTominay rescued a late win.

With Onana under pressure, de Gea sparked speculation by revealing he is back in the city on Tuesday with a post on Instagram.

But according to the Daily Mail, de Gea is back in town just for a few days, making arrangements for the house in Hale where he lived as United’s no1.

The shot stopper was also spotted at Manchester United Women’s 1-1 draw with PSG in the first-leg of their Champions League second round encounter.

Reports in the summer claimed de Gea rejected a move to Inter Milan while he was also linked with a move to Bayern Munich. It was also claimed last month the former Spain international was considering retirement.

De Gea is thought to be relaxed over his future and is enjoying his time away from the game with his family, having married his long-term partner Edurne Garcia in the summer.

The former Atletico Madrid youngster is not rushing to find a club, but that situation could change in the New Year.
