Adebowale Zainab Titilayo, CEO of Glow Essence Skincare, has explained her predisposition for humanitarian works following the recent video on social media showing her distributing loaves of bread from the boot and back seat of her car to a large crowd on the street. Many who watched the video deduced that the act of charity was carried out in the spirit of the Eid al-Adha festival.

However, Adebowale, who is flying high with her four-year-old cosmetic company, Glow Essence Skincare, debunked such reasoning saying that her philanthropy is for all seasons, not for a particular season.

Providing a backdrop to the video, she said: “I do this almost every Friday especially, during the month of Ramadan as Sadaqa (voluntary giving). I try to provide for the needy, mainly their most immediate need which is feeding.”

Continuing, she said: “As a Muslim I believe in Zakat, the obligatory giving to the needy that is one of the five pillars of Islam.”

The Abeokuta, Ogun State-born entrepreneur, a graduate of Lagos State University, LASU, who was raised by her mother after the death of her father, went on to found a successful business that is recognised today as a leader in the beauty niche.

“Growing up was a bit tough. I lost my dad and was brought up by my mum, who struggled day by day to ensure that we survive. I overcame those challenges by never giving up and by chasing my dreams,” she said, stating that she has a good idea of how it feels to lack basic needs.

Presently, her brand, Glow Essence Skincare, is ranked among the very best in the cosmetics industry. The runaway success, she avowed, is also a driving force behind her philanthropy.

“The more I am successful, the more I am obliged to observe Zakat and Sadaqa, “ she affirmed.
