Chairman of the senate committee on public accounts, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has said President Bola Tinubu deserves the cooperation of the National Assembly in order to get Nigeria from the messy situation it has found itself.

He said it was because of the desire of the National Assembly to see that the country navigates through the many hurdles and challenges it is currently facing that the National Assembly accords the president’s requests prompt attention.

Senator Wadada (SDP, Nasarawa West) disclosed this in an interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Keffi yesterday.

He said lawmakers at both chambers had been so far open and available to everything the president requires and perceives to be of value addition to the citizenry and the country.

“You saw how prompt we were in screening and approving his ministerial nominees; how prompt we passed the supplementary budget as well as the 2024 appropriation bill which has since been passed into law. It is all borne out of our desires to see that Nigeria crosses the hurdles before it,” he explained.
The senator acknowledged that Nigeria is dire straits, but that the situation was inherited by Tinubu who is doing all he can to address the challenges.

“There is no hiding the fact that the government of Bola Tinubu met a messy polity, a messy economy in all ramifications and if you are confronted with such situation, you must try to strike a balance so if bending backwards will give the much-needed results you could do it so far as the law is not broken. So, all his requests have been attended to not only by the senate but the entire National Assembly.

“I do not think that we did all those as compromises but to enable him stablise. And after the stablisation, the real cause of events will have to be adhered to. I’m not saying we will step down the rules as regards the extant laws of the land, but I did say in one of my outings that whatever I see as a senator, that will add value or alleviate the sufferings of my constituents and by extension the entire citizens of the country, I will do or we will do it regardless of the names they will give us,” he said.
