Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Idah Peterside, has predicted an easy win for Jose Peseiro-led team over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire when they face off in the final match of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday’s night at the 60,000 – capacity Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe, Abidjan.

Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 in a breath-taking penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of intense football to make it into the final, Cote d’Ivoire beat Dr Congo in the semifinal match courtesy of Sebastian Haller’s lone goal to book their place in the final.

Both teams have already met at the group stage of the competition with the Super Eagles edging the Elephants 1-0.

Speaking ahead of the game on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily yesterday, Peterside said it would be a stroll for the Nigerians as the Ivorians would be under intense pressure.

“We all knew this (South Africa) was going to be our toughest game. The game against Ivory Coast will be easier than this because we have beaten them already in our group game.

“They (Ivory Coast) only survived by sheer luck to get here. I watched the game against Congo yesterday. They are not as good as we are. They just wobbled and fumbled into the final and they will be under pressure.

“The final game will be so easy; I say it again and we will win easily,” Peterside said.

Meanwhile, sports development minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, has described the Super Eagles as an “unstoppable force” following their 4-2 on penalties against South Africa to qualify for the final of the continental showpiece.

Enoh, who commended the players, coaching staff and all those involved in the Super Eagles’ journey for their doggedness and determination, emphasized the significance of their achievement in uniting the nation and inspiring future generations of Nigerian sports stars.

“It is with immense pride that I extend my congratulations to our beloved Super Eagles for their remarkable victory against South Africa. Their performance has once again demonstrated the formidable talent and spirit that define Nigerian sports.

“They have proven themselves to be an unstoppable force, and I have no doubt that they will continue to make our nation proud in the final and beyond,” he said.

The minister said the win was a result of hard work and dedication which is the hallmark of Nigerians. “This victory is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our sportsmen.

“It reflects the depth of talent present in Nigerian football and serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring young players across the country,” he said.

He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to sports development at all levels by ensuring that athletes have the necessary resources and infrastructure to excel on the global stage.
