‘Why Paddy Iyamu Is Preferred Choice For Oredo Reps Seat’

The Edo South Women for Good Governance has urged leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Oredo Federal Constituency to rally behind Hon. Paddy Iyamu as the party’s preferred candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, describing him as the most suitable figure to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

In a statement signed by the group’s national president, Maureen Ediagbonya, and national secretary, Sonia Edobor, the women said consultations and interactions with party stakeholders, youths, and community leaders indicated that Iyamu was steadily emerging as the most widely accepted aspirant within the party’s structure in Oredo.

According to the group, Oredo Federal Constituency, which covers the political and economic hub of Benin City in Edo State, requires a representative with administrative competence, grassroots appeal, and the capacity to effectively engage in legislative responsibilities, qualities they said Iyamu has consistently demonstrated in both public and private service.

They pointed to his tenure as Commissioner for Education in Edo State, where he supervised reforms aimed at strengthening monitoring of schools, improving learning outcomes, and expanding access to education.

The group also noted that under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, the reconstruction of over 90 public schools helped improve the learning environment for thousands of pupils across the state.

Beyond infrastructure, the group said Iyamu championed initiatives that opened opportunities for Edo students to gain international exposure, including training programmes in China and scholarship collaborations with the Turkish government.

They added that policies such as the recycling of textbooks and the removal of compulsory workbooks helped ease the financial burden on parents while promoting wider access to education.

The women further said Iyamu’s grassroots connection, humanitarian engagements, and background in private enterprise have strengthened his reputation among party leaders, youths, and community stakeholders, many of whom now view him as the most credible option for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

They appealed to Governor Okpebholo to release Iyamu to contest the Oredo Federal Constituency seat, expressing confidence that his leadership qualities and growing support base could position the party strongly for electoral victory.
