Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has described as ‘frivolous’, the allegation that Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, was working towards destroying the electoral process in the state.
About 239,864 persons had virtually signed a petition on change.org for the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and the entirety of the European and Asian continents to cancel Wike’s visa, for allegedly destroying the electoral process in Rivers State
The author of the petition, Onyebuchi Ezeagabu, who alleged that the governor was “operating to destroy the electoral process,” requested that the eligibility of the governor’s visa and that of his family should be revoked.
But, speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, spokesman of the Consolidation for New Rivers Vision Campaign Council, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, said those making the allegation have no evidence to back up their claims.
Nwuke said, “There are allegations and nobody has any significant prove of Wike meddling with electoral process. He is not the only one. They have also written one against the Chairman of INEC. So, it has become commonplace to come up with fallacious accusations such as this.
“I believe very strongly that the diplomats who are serving in Nigeria; those foreign missions and their home countries, have credible information about what is happening in Nigeria. Who is doing what to promote security, safety and even, use public funds for the development of their people? They know those who are not.
“These allegations to my mind are largely very frivolous; there are no pictorial evidence of Wike interfering in any INEC facility, there is no video evidence of Wike meddling with INEC officials. There is even no audio evidence. On what credible information are these people basing their argument on?
“You can see their allegations are empty, very fallacious in my view. It is something that reasonable people should discard. I don’t think we should turn everything in our system into politics. We cannot continue to present our country as a country that is not doing well democratically.”
