The tennis world could be in for a truly historic moment, as speculation grows that Venus and Serena Williams are plotting a sensational return to the court with their sights set firmly on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
While both legendary players have stepped away from the regular tour, whispers of a comeback have persisted.
Now, former British No. 1 Naomi Broady has added fuel to the fire, suggesting that the sisters are eyeing the LA Games as the ultimate stage for a final bow.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Broady outlined a scenario that sounds straight out of a Hollywood script: the Williams sisters, armed with 14 Grand Slam doubles titles between them, competing for Olympic gold on home soil.
“I think the idea is to play doubles at the Olympics,” Broady revealed. “It will be at home in LA. Fourteen Grand Slam doubles titles that Venus and Serena have won together. Imagine winning gold there and that is your goodbye to the sport. It would be a fairytale ending.”
For years, fans have dreamt of seeing the iconic duo grace the court one last time. Broady’s comments suggest that this dream might not be as far-fetched as it seems, with the Los Angeles Olympics providing a poignant and fitting backdrop for a potential farewell.
“If that is the plan,” Broady added, “it is an early comeback as it’s [the Olympics] not for a few more years yet.”
