The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), in collaboration with stakeholders in the book industry, has donated educational materials to Sultan Bello Primary School, Kaduna, in commemoration of World Book and Copyright Day.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kaduna during the exercise, the State coordinator of the NCC, Rukkaya Muhammad Yeldu, urged Nigerians to develop a strong reading culture and respect intellectual property rights.

She warned that piracy and unauthorised use of creative works continue to undermine authors, publishers and the wider book industry.

Yeldu, represented by the head of operations at the Kaduna office, Abdullahi Alfa Mohammed, explained that World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO, is set aside to promote reading habits and strengthen literature as a tool for learning and development.

Also speaking, the Kaduna North Local Government Education Secretary, Muhammed Sani Abubakar, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would enhance learning and motivate pupils.
