The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has announced that Kebbi and Abia States will host this year’s World Democracy Day events in their respective states.

The association also announced that the governors of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, and Katsina States, as well as a one-time governorship aspirant in Imo State, Dr. Petrus N. Dikeocha (NKASIOBI NDI IMO) will receive IAWPA’s Eminent Peace Ambassadors Award for their contributions to promoting peace and security in their respective states.

IAWPA’s International Spokesman, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, while briefing journalists in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday, said the World Democracy Day event, which will be a side event of the association, will be used to highlight the gains recorded by the country since 1999.

He called on Nigerians to appreciate democracy because it is the most inclusive form of government.

He said the choice of the governors was due to the proactive measures they have put in place to curb the activities of bandits in their respective states.

Amb. Nkweke said the events were scheduled to hold in Kebbi State on Saturday, September 14, while that of Abia State will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

In a similar vein, the focal person for the Kebbi State event, Amb. Hassan Adamu, in collaboration with the CEO of PETVIV NIGERIA LIMITED, told newsmen that all machinery has been put in place to ensure the success of the event in the State.

They hailed the State governor, Nasir Idris, for maintaining peace in the state, making it one of the most peaceful states in the country, stressing that the choice of the state as one of the states hosting this year’s International Democracy Day event underscored the importance the association has placed on the state.

The International Day of Democracy is celebrated around the world on September 15 each year. It was established through a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly in 2007, encouraging governments to strengthen and consolidate democracy.
