As part of measures to modernize education in response to the rapid advancements in technology, Rotary District 9111, in collaboration with the Lagos and Ogun states Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), has trained teachers to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their teaching practices.

The event, part of Rotary’s celebration of World Teachers’ Day, was carefully tailored to equip educators with cutting-edge skills and was held at the PSSDC, Lagos.

The magical pioneer District Governor of Rotary District 9111, Rtn (Dr.) Wole Kukoyi, in his keynote address at the training, which drew teachers from various public schools across Lagos and Ogun states, said the training underscored the importance of preparing educators for the digital age.

“This training has set the foundation for a tech-driven future in education. By equipping teachers with AI knowledge, we are paving the way for more dynamic and effective learning experiences for Lagos and Ogun States students,” he said.

According to Kukoyi, the collaboration with the Lagos and Ogun State Ministries of Education and the PSSDC further underscored the initiative’s strategic importance.

“It demonstrated Rotary’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships for the betterment of society. The Ministries expressed their appreciation for the training, which aligns with their goals of improving the quality of education and integrating technology into the curriculum.’’

He explained that Rotary clubs across District 9111 played a pivotal role in supporting the programme, sponsoring teachers to attend the training and ensuring the initiative reached as many educators as possible.

“By doing so, the clubs reinforced Rotary’s mission of empowering communities, particularly in education. The sponsorships also served as a gesture of gratitude to the teachers, honouring their tireless dedication on World Teachers’ Day.

“The AI training is expected to have a lasting impact on the teachers and the students they serve. By embracing technology, educators are better equipped to create more interactive, personalised, and efficient learning environments. Several teachers expressed their enthusiasm for the new skills acquired, noting that AI will enable them to enhance student engagement and tailor lessons to the needs of individual learners.

“As Rotary District 9111 continues to promote innovative educational initiatives, this AI training marks a significant step forward in its efforts to transform the education sector. As demonstrated through this program, Rotary’s commitment to progress and development serves as a model for other organisations and stakeholders in the education space.”

He added that by empowering teachers with forward-thinking tools, Rotary District 9111 is celebrating their contributions and ensuring that educators are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s classrooms.
