Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal is on the verge of signing a lucrative new contract until 2030, following another standout season.

It has been a hectic week for the Catalan management as they close in on their third contract extension.

Having already tied down head coach Hansi Flick and winger Raphinha to new deals, according to FCBN, Yamal is now on the verge of becoming the highest earner in the squad with a new five-year agreement.

Given Robert Lewandowski earns a reported €33 million (£27m/$36m) a year, Yamal’s new contract is set to be one of the biggest in European football.

This week, the 17-year-old and his representatives, including Jorge Mendes, were seen leaving the La Bonaigua restaurant in Barcelona, accompanied by legal advisors.

Mendes spoke briefly to reporters outside the restaurant, revealing that Yamal was set to stay at Barca.

While leaving the restaurant, Mendes told reporters, “Of course, he is going to renew, there will be no problem. He is happy. He is going to renew soon, rest assured.” He added, “Lamine is the best in the world and will be Ballon d’Or.”

Wrapping up Yamal’s new contract before the summer transfer window opens will be a huge priority for the club, who look likely to face another difficult period given their ongoing financial troubles.

Flick is expected to sell players in to be able to register any new signings, with the former Germany boss keen to strengthen team despite beating rivals Real Madrid to the La Liga title.

Barca will end the season with a game against Athletic Club on Sunday night.
