As anticipation builds for the Yenagoa City International 10K Race 2026, organisers, Nilayo Sports Management Ltd, have unveiled a significant technological upgrade set to enhance both race integrity and the participant experience: every registered runner will now be equipped with a timing chip.
The introduction of chip timing will ensure meticulous tracking of each runner’s performance from start to finish, bringing the race in line with international best practices and standards. This innovation guarantees accurate results, eradicates discrepancies, and boosts transparency across all participant categories.
According to the organisers, this decision highlights a firm commitment to delivering a world-class race experience in Yenagoa, solidifying the event’s position as one of the foremost road races in Nigeria and further afield.
“Every runner counts, and with the introduction of chip timing, we are ensuring that each participant’s effort is properly recorded and recognised. This is about fairness, precision, and elevating the overall race experience,” the organisers stated.
Beyond the new chip timing system, all runners who successfully complete the race will be awarded a finisher’s medal, celebrating their achievement and involvement in what promises to be a landmark sporting event.
The race, scheduled for 4th April, is expected to draw elite and amateur runners from across the globe. It aims not only to champion fitness and wellbeing but also to spotlight the cultural and tourism appeal of Bayelsa State.
Registration remains open at the Samson Siasia Stadium, the Ministry of Sports, and online. Prospective participants are encouraged to secure their places and be part of an unforgettable experience where performance meets precision.
