The Yobe State government has made significant investments in education, child protection, and health services.
The state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Jalo Badama made the statement at the children’s day celebration held at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu playing ground.
The theme for this year’s event is: “Future now; Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child”.
She said it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure that every child has access to education, affordable healthcare, protection from abuse and exploitation, and the opportunity to live a life filled with dignity and purpose.
“This year’s celebration reminds us once again of our collective responsibility regardless of background or protection, nurturing and empowering every child’s circumstance”.
According to her, the Buni-led administration is expanding school enrollment, rebuilding safe learning environments, supporting orphan and vulnerable children, and deepening social welfare programmes especially for children affected by conflict, poverty or displacement.
The commissioner called on parents, teachers, community leaders and civil society organisations to join hands in nurturing an environment where every child can thrive.
“Let us speak out against child labour, early marriage, and violence against children, let us raise our voices for the voiceless and uplift those left behind, as government alone cannot do it all”, she noted.
She, however, urged the children to believe in themselves in pursuing their dreams, pointing out that the state government is fully committed to supporting them to build a better Yobe State where every child matters.
Earlier, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alh. Shuaibu Abdullahi said the day is dedicated to children to recognise their talent, achievements, and immense potential for the future, reaffirming the collective responsibility to protect and empower the children in their academic pursuits.
He called on the state government to renew its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of the children, so that they can be valued and protected to build a better society.
“The theme for this year’s Children’s Day reminds us of the importance of creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow and realise their full potential”, he added.
In a vote of thanks, the Director of Child Development, Haj. Fati Abba Jajere, represented by the acting director of the Child Ministry of Women Affairs, Yabawa Buba, charged them to study hard, respect their parents and teachers, and strive to become the leaders the nation needs.
