Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued seven kidnapped victims and foiled coordinated abduction attempts in separate operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA said yesterday that the rescues were carried out through sustained counter terrorism and search and rescue operations aimed at eradicating terrorism and banditry in the North-West region.

A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force stated that four victims were freed in Katsina during the “Operation Clean Sweep 3.”

“On Monday, June 16, troops conducting Operation CLEAN SWEEP 3 intensified offensive operations against terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.”

According to the statement, the mission was designed to build on the recent rescue of the spouse of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar by further dismantling terrorist networks and freeing captives.

Accordingly, troops targeted identified terrorist hideout in Fafu Village, Matazu LGA. Overwhelmed by the aggressive assault and superior firepower, the terrorists abandoned their camp and the abducted victims before fleeing.

Troops cleared the camp and rescued four kidnapped victims who are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during captivity.

The operation dealt a blow to the group’s logistics and command structure in the area.

In a related development in Zamfara State, troops deployed in Zurmi town, Zurmi LGA, foiled a kidnapping attempt after terrorists infiltrated the community with intent to abduct residents.

Responding swiftly to a distress call, troops mobilized to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight. Unable to withstand the overwhelming firepower, the bandits abandoned their mission and fled into the bush.

“Following a thorough clearance and exploitation of the area, troops rescued three abducted victims and ensured their safety and return to their families” .

Lt. Col. Danja said, the swift response prevented what could have been another mass abduction in the volatile LGA.

Lieutenant Colonel Danja further said the operational successes underscore Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s relentless commitment to protecting lives and property across the North-West.

“The troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive operations to deny terrorists and bandits any freedom of action, ensuring that peace and normalcy are fully restored to all affected communities,” he stated.
