A group, The Nigerian Youth Union (NYU) has congratulated Babatunde Olomu on his elevation to the rank of assistant comptroller-general of customs (ACG), describing the promotion as a reward for loyalty, professionalism, and dedication to national service.
In a statement issued after a press conference yesterday, the coordinator of NYU, Dr. Haruna Zakariyau, said Olomu’s leadership at the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has delivered “unprecedented revenue milestones” that earned him national recognition and commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Zakaiya said the Apapa Command under Olomu collected ₦1.378 trillion in the first half of 2025, a 35% increase from the ₦1.023 trillion recorded during the same period in 2024. The Command also generated ₦161 billion in just three weeks through the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, while in August 2025 alone, it recorded ₦215 billion.
“These results are not accidental but the product of technical expertise, innovative strategies, and transparency that Comptroller Olomu pledged when he assumed office one year ago,” said Comrade Haruna Zakariyau, President of the NYU.
The group credited Olomu’s insistence on blocking leakages, enforcing compliance, issuing demand notices, and adopting an open-door policy with restoring confidence in Nigeria’s port operations and contributing to economic growth.
It further commended the comptroller-general of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the reforms that have repositioned the Service and created room for such achievements.
