The Department of Community Medicine at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), has achieved full accreditation for postgraduate residency training from the West African College of Physicians.

The accreditation is valid for an initial period of five years, marking a historic milestone for the state’s healthcare sector.

This accreditation paves the way for the training of doctors up to the consultant level within YSUTH, a feat that underscores the continuous progress in medical education and healthcare delivery under the administration of Hon. Mai Mala Buni.

Speaking, on the achievement, the commissioner for Health, Dr. Gana Lawan Muhammad, commended Governor Buni for his unwavering commitment to transforming the healthcare system in Yobe State.

According to him, this development would enhance the quality of healthcare services, reduce the burden of seeking advanced medical training outside the state, and position YSUTH as a centre of excellence in medical education and community health.

“This accreditation is a testament to Governor Buni’s visionary leadership and his administration’s relentless efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and capacity in Yobe State,” Dr. Muhammad stated.

He said this achievement is expected to attract more medical professionals to the state, improve healthcare delivery, and significantly contribute to the overall development of the health sector in Yobe State.
