The chairman of Bekwarra local government area of Cross River State, Hon. Theresa Ushie, with the support of the state governor Bassey Edet Otu, has demonstrated exceptional leadership by promoting unity and inclusivity, ensuring a truly memorable Yuletide season for residents.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, Hon. Ushie said:
“As the festivities continue, I encourage all to celebrate responsibly and embrace the unity and joy that the season represents. This year’s Yuletide in Bekwarra is not just about feasting but also a celebration of shared humanity and progress.”
Dubbed a “historic Detty December in Bekwarra,” the initiative featured the widespread distribution of food items, including bags of rice, to all communities within the local government area on Friday.
Fondly referred to as the “Queen Mother” by her constituents, Hon. Ushie personally oversaw the distribution process, ensuring equitable access for all groups, including partisan and non-partisan stakeholders.
She highlighted that the atmosphere during the event was one of jubilation and togetherness, as leaders and residents united to celebrate the season of giving and community.
Hon. Ushie noted that the event brought together ward leaders, stakeholders, union and association representatives, and even members of opposition parties.
A ward leader expressed gratitude for the volume of palliatives delivered, noting the use of trucks to distribute the massive packages to the community.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ushie reiterated the “people-first” mantra championed by Governor Otu, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the needs of their communities.
“Let us ensure that everyone feels the impact of this initiative. Put the people’s interests above personal gain, and let the spirit of the season inspire peace and goodwill among us,” she said.
She underscored the importance of collective efforts in fostering community development and harmony, with residents and stakeholders expressing gratitude for her dedication and leadership. Many noted that her efforts have brought a renewed sense of hope and togetherness to Bekwarra.
