As Nigerians join the global celebration of Christmas, the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria has called on leaders at all levels of governance to implement policies that improve the nation’s economy and narrow the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

In a Christmas message shared on Tuesday, the foundation’s country director, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, emphasized the strong connection between good governance and peace.

“We appeal to the government to address rising poverty and unemployment, which exacerbate tensions and threaten peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Highlighting the essence of the season, Hayab urged Nigerians to embody the spirit of peace, love, and compassion.

“As we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us recommit ourselves to being instruments of peace. May this season bring us closer to a world where peace, love, and joy reign supreme,” he added.
The organisation also appealed to citizens to extend support to those in need, especially the underprivileged and victims of conflict, poverty, and inequality.

“We call on everyone to support peacebuilding efforts and spread love, kindness, and peace to those who need it most,” Hayab said.

Addressing global issues, the foundation urged leaders of nations embroiled in conflict, such as Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine, to prioritize peace.

It also joined the campaign for the peaceful reunification of Korea, underscoring its significance for regional and global stability.

“The world can only become a better place when every issue is approached with respect for human life and dignity,” Hayab noted.

“While noble causes may be pursued, they should never violate fundamental human rights.”
