Yuletide: Niger CP Orders Massive Security Deployment

* Restates ban on fireworks

Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, has ordered massive deployment of police officers and operational equipment across the state to guarantee a safe and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebration.

CP Elleman also reaffirmed the ban on the use of fireworks across the state.

The directive was contained in a statement on Monday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun.

According to Abiodun, the security deployment will cover key locations, including worship places, recreation centres, amusement parks, motor parks and highways within the State.

This, he said was to ensure effective security coverage before, during and after the festive season.

Elleman therefore instructed Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to strictly comply with the operational plans designed for the period, emphasising the importance of intelligence-driven strategies and visible policing.

The CP explained that the security measures would be reinforced through sustained joint ‘show-of-force’ exercises and township patrols under Operation Flush, alongside continuous raids on identified criminal hideouts.

“These are proactive measures emplaced for crime prevention, and quick response for intervention in case of any incident,” he said.

While encouraging residents to conduct themselves responsibly during the celebrations, the CP cautioned against the use of fireworks, stressing that the prohibition remains active.

Elleman further appealed to members of the public to stay alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance safety across the state.

He reassured residents of the Command’s dedication to the “provision of security, maintenance of law and order, and protection of lives and property,” while also extending seasonal goodwill to residents.

“The CP, on behalf of officers and men of the Police Command, wishes all Nigerlites, residents and Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year,” the statement added.
