Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has disbursed N50,000 each to 6,680 women as part of efforts to boost household incomes and stimulate grassroots economic activities across the state.

The disbursement ceremony, held at the Government House in Kano at the weekend, drew thousands of beneficiaries from the 44 local government areas.

Speaking at the event, Yusuf described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering vulnerable women and supporting their families. He said the programme reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improved welfare for citizens.

“This initiative is part of our commitment to uplifting our people and ensuring that no one is left behind,” the governor stated.

He explained that the scheme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises economic recovery and social protection for Nigerians.

Yusuf disclosed that the state government had earlier disbursed over N800 million to more than 5,300 youths under a separate empowerment programme. He added that other interventions by the administration include support for widows and vulnerable groups through mass wedding schemes and provision of start-up capital.

He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to expand petty trading and improve their standard of living.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, commended the initiative, saying it has continued to positively impact women and vulnerable groups across the state. She encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to attain financial independence.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grants effectively, describing the support as a rare opportunity to improve their livelihoods.
