LEADERSHIP recalls that 18 of the 24 members of the House had last week announced the impeachment of the Speaker, Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki.

However, the embattled Speaker resurfaced on Monday wth his principal officers and presided over the sitting of the House.

At the sitting, Majority Leader, Bello Mazawaje, moved for the suspension of the eight members and the motion was seconded by deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi.

According to Mazawaje, the eight members were allegedly involved in an attempt to cause misunderstanding in the House in addition to holding an illegal plenary.

“The affected members have attempted to break into the office of the Clerk to the House, and that of Chief Sergeant,” he added.

He, therefore, called on the House to approve their indefinite suspension pending investigation on the matter.

In their contributions to the motion, members representing Anka, Bukkuyum South, and Birnin Magaji State constituencies, Hon. Rilwanu Marafa Anka, Hon. Hamisu Faru Nassarawa and Hon. Nura Dahiru Sabon Birni, respectively, said there was the need for the House to take disciplinary action against the erring members to serve as deterrence.

The seven members present in the chamber, therefore, approved the suspension of the eight members.

Accordingly, Speaker Moriki listed the suspended members to include Hon. Bashiru Aliyu Gummi (Gummi 1), Hon. Bashiru Bello Sarkin Zango (Bungudu West), Hon. Shamsudeen Hassan Basko (Mafara North), Hon. Faruku Musa Dosara (Mafara South), Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), Hon. Ibrahim Tukur (Bakura), Hon. Barrister Bashiru Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), and Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North).

The Speaker, thereafter, announced the immediate dissolution of all the House Standing Committees.
