Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Jibo Magayaki Jamilu, has challenged the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, regarding his support for the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
According to the chairman, Matawalle’s stance is hardly surprising, given his record as governor of Zamfara State.
In a statement issued to journalists, the PDP chairman described Matawalle’s accusations against Governor Simi Fubara concerning the demolition of public buildings and disregard for the rule of law as “hypocritical at best.”
He stated, “Matawalle himself dismissed democratically elected local government chairmen, unjustifiably removed his Deputy, recklessly demolished public buildings (including Gusau Hotel and Farida Hospital), and governed the state unilaterally without holding an Executive Council Meeting throughout his term. Such actions highlight his disregard for the very principles he now claims to uphold.”
“The removal of elected officials under the pretext of emergency rule is unconstitutional and unacceptable, and Matawalle, with his history of similar violations, should be the last person to pass judgement on others. He should be ashamed to make such accusations,” the chairman stated.
