Zamfara Records 4 New Polio Cases

Zamfara State government has recorded four new polio cases.

The government said the cases were discovered after the state targeted 1.4 million children to be vaccinated in the current round of polio immunisation.

This was disclosed on Sunday evening by the incident manager of Emergency Operations Centre, Zamfara State, Dr Murtala Salaudeen during a media briefing at EOC office in the state.

he said as part of the efforts to ensure no child is left unvaccinated, a total of 1,997 teams were deployed across the the communities to ensure the successful vaccination in the state.

“This time around we have strategized our operations on house to house campaign with distribution of indomie pack to every child that was vaccinated and ensure a huge and successful exercise in the state,” he stated.

The Zamfara incident manager maintained that this round of polio immunization is targeting 1.4 million children, and started from 7th – 13th march 2026 to ensure no child is left unvaccinated in the state.

“There are four new cases of poliomyelitis recorded in two local government areas in the state,3 cases in Gummi and 1 case in Tsafe local government area” he said.

He highlighted that in 2024, 16 cases of polio were recorded but in 2025 the state had zero case.

He emphasized that children need to be vaccinated against poliomyelitis,”the drugs are safe, would not harm any child but would save our children”.

 

He further stated that all stakeholders are important in the campaign against poliomyelitis,and would continue to work with partners to ensure the successfully exercise in the state.

 

In his remarks,the United Nation Children Fund ,Social Policy specialist, Sokoto office, Mr. Isah Ibrahim, assured that UNICEF would continue to support the state government towards the survival of children in the state.
