Zamfara Senator Lifts Farmers With Fertiliser, Farm Inputs Worth N300m

The chairman, Senate Committee on National Atomic and Nuclear Energy, Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u has flagged off the distribution of farm tools worth N350 million free to farmers in his constituency.

Sahabi Ya’u, representing Zamfara North senatorial district in the Senate shared 2,400 bags of 50kg fertiliser, 400 cartoons of spraying fertiliser, 6,000 bags of 25kg treated maize seedlings, 1,000 bags of 25kg treated rice seedlings, 80 cartoons of herbicides and 1,000 pumping machines to farmers across the four local government areas of his constituency in the first phase of the exercise.

At the event which was held at Kaura Namoda town his country home, the lawmaker hinted that the initiative was to support agricultural productivity and improve crop yields for farmers in the zone.

Senator Sahabi, who extended the gesture to officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the four local government areas of the zone and individuals, also said the distribution of the farm tools would be equally distributed to each beneficiary accordingly.

 

According to him, the distribution of such significant quantity of farm tools, is to ensure sustainable agricultural practices as well as enhancing food security and boost food production in the state.

He however, stated that though most of the farming areas have been forcefully abandoned by the farmers due to insecurity bedivelling Zamfara State, efforts are being made by federal government to ensure that peace is restored to allow farming in the affected areas.

 

The senator, who called on them to pray for peace and tranquility in the state and the country, also assured them of his consistent programmes, which provide essential things and support to the entire APC members in the zone.

 

He stated that the second phase of the programme would be unveiled very soon, in which women and youths will be supported with cash and other business means to run their livelihoods effectively.
