The leadership of the Zangon Kataf local government APC has officially welcomed Mr Rijo Shekari, a former candidate for the Kaduna South Senatorial District under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and current senior legislative aide to the deputy president of the Senate, Jibrin Barau.
The reception took place at the APC party office in Zonkwa on Thursday.
The local government chairman of the party, Comrade Markus Bahago, described Rijo as an individual with a proven track record who will bring significant value to the APC both locally and beyond.
Bahago expressed optimism that Rijo would utilise his extensive experience, network and connections to enhance the party’s standing in the area.
Rijo Shekari remarked that he was inspired to join the APC family due to the inclusive governance style of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. He highlighted several appointments made for Southern Kaduna by the current administration, as well as the recent assent to Senator Katung’s bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, as key factors influencing his decision.
The vice chairman of the Zangon Kataf local government council, Hon. Godwin Ishaya Dandaura, welcomed Rijo to the APC, describing him as a significant asset for the growth of the party.
Dandaura expressed confidence that Rijo’s arrival would usher in positive change for the APC in the region.
The event also featured the commissioning of boreholes in the Ramai Daji and Kurdan communities, which were donated by Rijo Shekari’s Kamrum Integrated Farms. The company constructed a new hand-pump and upgraded an old, non-functional borehole to a solar-powered one in the two communities as part of its corporate social responsibilities.
At the handover ceremony, Rijo Shekari emphasised his commitment to continuing the provision of basic amenities such as water as well as empowerment to communities and individuals in need. He said he was aware of the challenges faced by these communities who often rely on streams for water, and felt compelled to offer assistance.
The community leader, Mr Michael Buzun praised the initiative, calling it an extraordinary humanitarian gesture that would bring relief to the people.
