First Bank Basketball Club yesterday in Akure cruised to a winning start, beating the IGP Queens ruthlessly to signal their intention of regaining the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League’s crown.
The Lagos based club defeated IGP Queens a 80-30 scored to the surprise of fans of the game in the Atlantic Conference venue. Bayelsa Whales also defeated host team Sunshine Angels 61-44 in the opening match of the Atlantic Conference.
MFM and Dolphins are the other teams in the zone where two finalists will eventually emerge for the finals billed for October.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Customs on the Day2 of the Savannah Conference defeated Air Warriors of Abuja 64-48 in a high tempo match that kept spectators at the edge of their seats in Jos.
The Warriors began their defence of the Zenith Bank Women’s League on a bright note with a 66-48 victory over the Nigerian Army but couldn’t sustain the moment against the custom ladies.
Also in the Savannah Conference, Plateau Rocks defeated Nasarawa Amazons 63-44 just as Nigeria Customs whipped Kada Angels 73-32 on matchday1.
Key games are expected to take place in both the Atlantic and Savannah zones today as teams jostle for the four tickets available for the final battle in Lagos.
