Secretary-general of the Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA), Saidu Jibril Ojih, has charged the Nigerian new minister of sports development, Senator John Enoh, to create a veritable platform for all sports to thrive in the country.
The handball body, while congratulating Senator Enoh on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, advised him not to toe the line of his predecessors who were seen as football or athletics minister rather than be a minister of sports.
“Senator John Enoh has a reputation to protect. He has a name that became pronounced when he was at the 8th National Assembly, hence he will be bringing a wealth of administrative and legislative expertise to this new mandate of policy formulation by the executives.
“He is now a sports development minister, not of a Youth or football or athletics Ministry. “Devolving strategic policies to grassroots development of all sports will be an essential foundation for a successful Ministry, obviously he will provide that needed leadership,” Ojih said.
Ojih who is also a ranking member of Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) calls for more support from key stakeholders including the media and play a role in making the sports sector a vibrant contributor to Nigeria’s economy.
